Join artist William Suran during his Watercolor Technique Class, where you'll learn and discuss painting techniques from William's artistic practice used for his Demon series. Whether a beginner or an avid painter wanting to learn about a new approach, we'll discuss the theme of observation, and how perception shifts from looking on a screen of a composition of work to a peony in live form.

From the Artist: Observation starts with selecting images. You have to have something compelling to make you want to be in front of it for the duration of a painting. I'll be selecting a few of my photos of peonies for you to choose from and will go through my process with you. This process will translate to any work you might do, be it drawing or painting, and should help beginners make the dive and not be threatened by that white page and should help more advanced people hone their skills.

Materials we'll have for you (you can bring your own too!) :

  • 1 Pad of Paper, hot press, 140 lb (300 gsm). We're using Fluid Easy-Block Watercolor Paper Blocks, 9" x 12"
  • A plastic tray/palette
  • A range of Watercolor Brush Sizes, both round and flat.
  • Watercolor paint tubes. We're using the Sakura Koi 12 Tube Set!
